Man arrested following police pursuit

A Centreville man was arrested last week after leading deputies on a pursuit across St. Joseph County.

Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said deputies attempted to stop the vehicle after leaving the scene of a property-damage incident Friday at an unspecified time in the village of Centreville. The pursuit continued east on M-86, as the suspect’s vehicle nearly struck other cars on the road and caused additional property damage in Colon Township.

The suspect’s vehicle finally came to a stop when it crashed onto private property in the village of Colon.

Deputies said the 38-year-old suspect removed his clothing after exiting the vehicle. He subsequently physically struck a deputy in the face.

The man, whose name has not been released pending arraignment, was charged with fleeing and eluding, assault, resisting and obstructing, indecent exposure and driving on a suspended license.
