TR Commercial-News will stop publication

A Three Rivers institution for more than a century is closing this week.

The Three Rivers Commercial-News announced it will cease operations and its final edition will be published on Saturday.

Quoted in today’s edition, owner Dirk Milliman said the closure was announced to staff Tuesday. He said the culprit is lack of revenue due to a shrinking advertiser base.

He added that the prevalence of social media has affected the manner in which information-sharing takes place.

The paper was established in 1895 and has been owned by the Milliman family the past 41 years.

  1. Sad to see but a sign of the times unfortunately. Especially sad for small town America where true local news has value. I worked for the Commercial in high school back in the late 60’s (Bob Schumaker and Darlene Blood running the show). Really my first real job (outside of slinging “fast” food at Lee’s). Now all “news” is instantaneous (or worse) leaving no room for print publications.

  2. They’re not keeping on online version?
