Woman arrested on drug charges

A 51-year-old woman was arrested on drug-related offenses following a traffic stop in Sturgis earlier this week.

Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said deputies pulled over a vehicle at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Meijer parking lot on South Centerville Road. Deputies suspected narcotics were concealed inside the vehicle and requested the Sturgis K9 unit respond to the stop.

K9 Odin and his handler were deployed and Odin reacted in a matter consistent with a positive response to the presence of narcotics.

Deputies conducted a vehicle search and located methamphetamine inside the vehicle. The woman was arrested, though no additional details were provided in a department media release.

  1. Seems to be something missing here. The police pulled her over in the Meijers parking lot (a private parking lot) for some undisclosed traffic violation. Then they decide there might be narcotics in the vehicle. My guess is this is another “equipment violation” stop to search a car. The state needs to put a stop to these purported legal stops because in many cases they are no less than “frisk and search” stops. If people break the law then put them in jail but you don’t get to do it by breaking the law.
