Daniel Markum, 53

Daniel John Markum, age 53, of Jones, unexpectedly passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022 at his home following a brief illness.

He was born February 2, 1969, in Elkhart, the son of William John and Emma Jane (Alwine) Markum, and graduated from Three Rivers High School with the Class of 1987.

Daniel worked as a machinist at Armstrong International in Three Rivers producing steam traps.

Daniel had a heart to serve, because he was very proud to be the son of a Veteran. He volunteered at the Moose Lodge in Three Rivers where he enjoyed calling Bingo, and at the VA Hospital in Battle Creek where he organized an annual summer picnic and also provided a snack cart delivery where he personally interacted with each veteran.

Daniel enjoyed gathering with friends, especially around bonfires, grilling, and hunting. He made specialty sausage, a much-desired mustard, and processed deer that was enjoyed by his many family and friends.

Daniel put his heart into everything he did and stood up for what was right.

He attended New Day Community Church in Vandalia, worshipping beside his beloved wife.

Along with loving family and friends, Daniel leaves behind his cherished wife Heidi Markum and two stepsons, Blake VandenBosch and Maxwell VandenBosch. Daniel was so loved by his siblings Hana (Steve) Van Osdol, Scott (Kimberly) Wurtsbaugh and Skipp (Heather) Wurtsbaugh and was loved by many nieces and nephews. Daniel had many treasured friendships that were “brothers of the heart” to him.

He was preceded in death by his father, William (John) Markum; mother, Emma “Jane” Markum; and brother, Edward (Joseph) Markum.

He was very generous with all things including being an organ donor for the Gift of Life.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 at Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Newberg, fondly known as Poe’s, located at 13021 Born Street, Jones, Michigan. A private burial service will follow in Poe Cemetery.
