Dennis Baker, 81

Dennis Leon Baker, age 81, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange.

He was born July 23, 1941 in South Bend, son of the late Cecil and Alice (Miller) Baker.

Dennis resided in Sturgis for over 50 years. His early life was spent in Berrien Springs, where he was a graduate of Berrien Springs High School with the class of 1959.

He retired from Howe Military School. He had also worked at a fruit farm and for several area manufacturing companies. Dennis had been employed as the animal control officer for the City of Sturgis Police Department for several years, a position he was passionate about and truly enjoyed.

He was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis and He married Helen Sophia Rank who survives along with his sons: Dan (Hillary) Baker of Otsego, Ron (Monica) Baker of Sturgis and Lee Baker of Sweetwater, Tennessee; grandchildren: Justin, Natasha, Courtney, Paige, Alisha, Vincent and Aaron; great grandchildren: Kayden, Mabel, Karsen, Cordelia, Wyatte, Eleanor and Ashton; sisters: Nancy Wilson of Sturgis and Ellen Baker and her partner Malinda Wylie of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Odetta Ann Baker and Julie Rawlinson.

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration and honoring of the life of Dennis L. Baker will be held at a later date.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
