St. Joseph County officials have tweaked the start time of one of their monthly meetings.
During their first assembly of 2023, St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday to shift from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. the start of their executive committee meeting. It will still be held the second Tuesday of the month in the History Room at the county courthouse.
Commissioner Rick Shaffer explained that 8 a.m. the second Tuesday of the month poses a conflict with the county’s monthly Human Services Commission meeting.
A few commissioners indicated they would have to modify their work schedule to accommodate a 4 p.m. start time. However, Commissioner Dennis Allen said the board should be cognizant of county employees whose attendance is required at executive committee meetings. He said a 4 o’clock start is early enough to ensure they will, more often than not, be able to end their work day by 5 p.m.
Executive committee meetings afford commissioners the opportunity to discuss in greater detail potential agenda items for the board’s monthly commission meeting, which remains at 5 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month.
