Man struck by car in Cass County

A Three Rivers man was hospitalized after being struck by a car over the weekend in Cass County’s Calvin Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called around 12:20 a.m. Saturday to Calvin Center Road, just south of Calvin Hill Street, in response to a two-vehicle crash.

Deputies said a vehicle driven by Elkhart resident Nicole Gant, 28, was heading north on Calvin Center Road when she lost control of her vehicle and it struck an embankment, ultimately ending up disabled in the roadway.

A second vehicle, traveling north on Calvin Center Road, was driven by Angelo Washington, 38, of Cassopolis. Washington attempted to avoid Gant’s vehicle. He lost control of his vehicle, which struck 28-year-old Zachary Howton, of Three Rivers.

Howton, who was standing in the roadway near Gant’s car, was taken to Elkhart General. His condition was not indicated in a department media release.
