Sturgis city manager recognized for service

Outgoing Sturgis City Manager Mike Hughes was recognized last week for his 17 years of service as he prepares to leave the city government position for a new career outside municipal service.

Mayor Jeff Mullins presented Hughes with a proclamation, highlighting the economic and infrastructure growth seen under Hughes’ tenure.

An open house honoring Hughes will take place 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts. His last day is Friday.

A contract for interim city manager Andrew Kuk was also unanimously approved last week. Kuk will assume his duties Jan. 21 and continue until a new city manager is hired this spring. Kuk has expressed interest in the position and the city is accepting applications until Jan. 27.
