TR housing project awarded state funds

A residential development in Three Rivers is included in an announcement made last week by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Whitmer announced funding to help build or improve nearly 700 affordable-housing units across 17 projects from Cheboygan to Detroit. Overall, the total development costs of projects funded is anticipated to be around $176.6 million, will create more than 60 permanent jobs and more than 1,100 temporary jobs.

Funding is through the bipartisan “Building Michigan Together” plan, which included the ambitious goal of building or rehabilitating 75,000 housing units within the next five years.

The Three Rivers project is Woodbrook Apartments, a proposed 32-unit development. The project was awarded nearly $365,000. A 48-unit development in Coldwater, meanwhile, received more than $430,000.

  1. I hope that these are not more “tax exempt” units. TR has more than enough already and adding more simply puts more strain on local budgets and citizens who, in the end, pay for it.
