Christian James “Chris” Wedel, age 66, of rural Mendon, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Bronson Hospital Emergency Room. He was born in Battle Creek on April 15, 1956 the son of James and Nancy (Harrison) Wedel and was raised in the Fulton area. He graduated from Athens High School with the class of 1974. He was a farmer, who also worked in construction, and at Simpson Paper Company in Vicksburg, where he was a member of the Steel Workers Union. He did a lot of wood-cutting for sale and for home heating from his farm which he purchased in 1982.
Chris was married to Deborah Lynn Palmer on August 27, 1983 in Fulton. She survives along with three children, Kristen (Daniel) Webb of Kalamazoo, Niccole (Hugh) Plummer and Erik Chesser both of Mendon; four grandchildren, Charlotte Brown, Dahlia Webb, Dylan Plummer, and Cassie (Gabriel) Park; a great-grandchild on the way; his mother, Nancy Wedel of Fulton; two brothers, Matthew (Sharlene) Wedel and Charles (April) Wedel; two sisters, Martha (Craig) Henderson and Karla Wedel; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Wedel.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm Monday, February 20, 2023 at the Fulton Christian Church where services will begin at 2 pm with Pastor Ralph L. Ackley officiating. Interment will be in North Fulton Cemetery. It is suggested that memorial donations be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
