Richard Carpenter, 50

Richard James Carpenter, age 50, of Cleveland, North Carolina, and formerly of Sturgis, passed away Monday morning, February 20, 2023 at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

He was born October 22, 1972 in Sturgis, son of Michael and Carol (Shipe) Carpenter, Sr.

On January 1, 2007 he married Kelly Gibson in North Carolina.

He was employed as a warehouse supervisor by Jeld Wen- VPI Quality Windows in North Carolina.

Richard enjoyed playing his guitars, and while in high school playing the trombone, working on cars, building things. Richard was very artistic and enjoyed drawing. He was a longtime fan of the band KISS, and loved time spent with family and friends, especially his children.

He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years: Kelly; three daughters: Elizabeth of Sturgis, Ayla and Keziah both at home; one son: Xavier at home; parents: Michael and Carol Carpenter of Sturgis; two brothers: Michael (Cassandra Snover) Carpenter of Cadillac and Jason Carpenter of Sturgis; one sister: Caila (Wes) Halsey of LaGrange, Indiana; father and mother-in-law: Jerry and Jane Hogan of Statesville, North Carolina and several aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Richard Shipe, Sr., 1981 and Mary K. Shipe Holley, 2022; step-grandfather: Paul F. Holley, 1998; paternal grandparents: James Carpenter, 1979 and Dorothy Carpenter, 1984; uncles: Alan Carpenter, 2014, David Carpenter, 2020 and Donald Shipe, 2022 and a favorite cousin: Jessica Carpenter, 2005.

A celebration of life will take place at 4:00 Monday, Feb. 27th at the Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville, North Carolina. A continued time of fellowship and celebration will follow the service at the funeral home.

There will also be a celebration of life, Saturday, March 11th at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Ontario Cemetery in Ontario, Indiana.
