St. Joseph County considers drone services agreement

St. Joseph County is contemplating whether to partner with a Coloma-based business for drone services.

During Tuesday’s executive committee meeting, commissioners learned Great Lakes Drones Company is offering its services on an as-needed basis for $5,000 a year.

Erin Goff, St. Joseph County Emergency Services Director, said drone service could come in handy under a variety of circumstances, including a survey of storm- or flooding-related damage, a search for missing people or fleeing subjects, and other situations that would benefit law-enforcement and emergency-service officials.

Commissioners appeared interested in the potential agreement and will act on the matter during their monthly meeting Tuesday next week.
