A Washington, D.C., man was arrested after a high-speed chase through southern St. Joseph County earlier this week.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies were alerted around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to a vehicle pursuit initiated by White Pigeon Police Department.
White Pigeon authorities attempted to stop an SUV speeding through the village. The suspect vehicle fled eastbound on U.S. 12. Authorities said speeds reached up to 130 miles per hour.
The pursuit went eastbound through White Pigeon and Sturgis townships, and into Sturgis, where Sturgis Police deployed stop sticks. The SUV continued southbound into Indiana, westbound on the Indiana Toll Road and then back eastbound.
The suspect vehicle finally pulled into the Holiday Inn, just south of the state line, where the suspect attempted to flee on foot. After a short pursuit by police, the man was taken into custody.
The 33-year-old suspect was charged with fleeing and eluding, as well as several other charges. The suspect will have further pending charges from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department and White Pigeon Police Department.
