George Pickett, 76

George Earl Pickett, age 76, of Sturgis, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Ft Wayne. He was born in Yuba City, CA on August 30,1946 to George and Merle (Kibbe) Pickett; graduated from Marysville Union High School; and then went on to serve in a US Army Field Artillery unit of the 1st Cavalry Division, during the Vietnam War. Until George’s retirement, he worked many years in California, Arizona and Texas in the road construction and heavy equipment operation trades.

Although not Amish, George spent many of the later years of his life in very close association with the Amish community near St Joseph County, Michigan – a specific family or two, he actually considered in his heart, his second family. George’s many friends and family members will confirm; he was a man with a good heart and was very charitable to those with whom he associated. He always tried to touch the lives of everyone around him positively in more ways than one. A lot of people have benefited from his kind heart and his good deeds over the years. Many fond memories will forever remain in our hearts.

George is survived by a son, Steven Van Noy of Oregon; and three siblings: Kenneth and Glen of Utah; and Rebecca Moore of Nebraska; in addition to many unnamed friends and extended family. George was preceded in death by his much-missed wife Norma (and his dog Guss).

In keeping with George’s wishes, cremation has been conducted.  A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in the spring.  Condolences and memories may be expressed to the family at eickhofffuneralhome.com
