Michael W. Frays, Sr., age 66, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday morning, March 8, 2023 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
He was born October 12, 1956 in Sturgis, son of the late William and Frances June (Ledyard) Frays.
Mike resided in Sturgis since 1981 coming from Centreville, where he was a graduate of Centreville High School with the class of 1974.
He was first married to Jean Kelley in 1975. This marriage ended in divorce. On January 5, 1991 he married Lynette Otto at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Centreville.
Mike has been employed by VCI in Sturgis since 2017. Prior to joining VCI he had worked at Classic Manufacturing in Sturgis for six years, A&N Welding in White Pigeon for six years, and Rood Industries in Sturgis for 21 years.
He was a member of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW Auxiliary and Eagles Lodge #1314. Mike enjoyed fishing and bowling.
Mike is survived by his wife: Lynette; four sons: Andrew (Laura) Frays of Mendon, Michael (Angela) Frays, Jr. of Elkhart, Edward Frays of Colon, and Scott (Trish) Brandow of Hernando, Florida; 10 grandchildren: Samantha (Kevin) Sleeth, Jacob Brandow, Shawn (Jessie) Brandow, Logan Frays, Riley Frays, Mason Frays, Chloe Frays, Paige Frays, Alex Wickam and Dakodah Frays; five great grandchildren; two sisters: Sandra O’Brien and Betty Goings both of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandmother: Velma Frays.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
