Barbara J. Ammermann, age 88, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday morning, April 2, 2023 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born January 24, 1935 in Monticello, Indiana daughter of the late Roy and Madeleine Audra (Elmore) Secrest.
Mrs. Ammermann resided in Sturgis since 1955 coming from Monticello.
On June 17, 1967 she married Andy Ammermann at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. He preceded her in death December 5, 2006.
She had been employed Bisel’s Five and Dime, Dancers Department Store, the Transogram Company, Paramount Furniture Company and Sturgis Public Schools Food Services. Following her retirement she worked with her husband in lawn care.
She is a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was a longtime member of the choir. She was also a former member of the Sturgis Band and Orchestra Parents. She enjoyed crocheting, painting and sketching, sewing, and gardening and it was mentioned that with a pound of hamburger and a bottle of ketchup she could make a delicious meal.
She is survived by her children: Cathy Jo Hayes of Sturgis, Merri Ann Lincoln of Sturgis, James (Brenda) Lincoln of Sturgis, Darrin (Joyce) Ammermann of Fort Wayne, and Frederick (Mandy) Ammermann of Ann Arbor; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; brother: Richard (Betty) Secrest of Monticello, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son: Dennis Ammermann, son-in-law: Timothy Hayes, brother: Robert Secrest and sister: Beverly Jean Hendershot.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 Friday, April 7th, at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Barbara J. Ammermann will be held at 11:00 Saturday morning, April 8th, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
