Betty Jean Peters, age 90, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 11, 2023 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born July 4, 1932 in LaGrange County, Indiana daughter of the late Ellis and Blanche (Wilson) Rowe.
Betty resided in Sturgis since 1962 coming from LaGrange County, where she was a graduate of Brighton High School with the class of 1950.
On December 15, 1951 she married Eugene Peters in Brighton. He preceded her in death.
Betty had been employed by Ross Laboratories in Sturgis with 25 years of dedicated employment.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sturgis.
For several years she and Gene spent their fall and winter seasons in Florida where she enjoyed playing Dominos, Bingo and cards with her Florida friends.
She is survived by her daughter: Julie Nichols of Sturgis; six grandchildren: Aaron (Shauna) Hutchinson, Josh (Jenny) Landez, Nicholas (Chrtsten) Boughton, Jake (Megan) Rebone, Joe (Ashley) Pedue and Kayla Peters; 14 great grandchildren; sister: Phyllis I. Rowe of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sons: Michael Eugene Peters and David Scott Peters; sister: Bonnie Lee and brothers: David Rowe and Russell Rowe.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00, Monday, at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Betty Jean Peters will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Sturgis. Pastor Doug Noonkester will officiate. In accordance with her wishes cremation will follow the service. Private burial of the remains will take place at the English Prairie Cemetery in Howe, Indiana.
