St. Joseph County Road Commission received some much-appreciated help from county commissioners this week.
During Tuesday’s St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners meeting, an additional allocation of $250,000 to assist with an upcoming overhaul of Langley Covered Bridge was approved. The funding is on top of $250,000 previously committed by the county.
Commissioners last month were brought up to date on higher-than-budgeted expenses involving the iconic bridge, followed by a funding request from St. Joseph County Road Commission members.
The project is slated to start this summer and cost nearly $3.3 million. Road commission officials said the county’s additional allocation still leaves them $350,000 short.
Malone said funding to assist with the project would come from the Michigan Marijuana Regulation Fund. The county received nearly $900,000 from the funding source.
