Gregory Allen Hopkins, age 73, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 26, 2023 at Edgewood Nursing and Rehabilitation in Three Rivers.
He was born July 21, 1949 in Sturgis, son of the late Richard A. and Irene I. (Jellison) Hopkins.
Greg was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate pf Sturgis High School with the class or 1967. Following his graduation he furthered his education at Tri-State College and Glen Oaks Community College.
On May 1, 1971 he married Susan Elizabeth Smith in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Greg retired from Midwest Plastics in Sturgis following 35 years of dedicated employment. After retiring he worked part time at Midwest Plastics and Sturgis Molded Products.
He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Sturgis.
Greg was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Air Force from May 25, 1970 – March 1, 1974 earning the rank of Sergeant.
He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and in his early years boat racing. Greg’s passion was fishing and was happiest when he was chasing Walleyes on Lake Erie.
He is survived by his sister: Sandra K. (Craig) Brueck of Centreville; niece: Linsey (Jerome) Wolff of Sturgis; nephew: Ryan (Samantha) Brueck of Centreville, and great nieces and nephews: Ella and Evelyn Wolff and Gavin and Lucas Brueck.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
