Jan Salmons, 76

Jan Marie (Wolgamood) Salmons, age 76, of Lansing, formerly of Constantine, passed away peacefully at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

Jan was born the second daughter of Charles and Jean (Drummond) Wolgamood in Three Rivers on April 28, 1946. She graduated from Constantine High School as the Class of 1964 valedictorian and earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Michigan State University in 1968. She began her career as a social worker in Shiawassee County and ended it when she retired as the head of Medicaid eligibility for the State of Michigan’s Department of Social Services in 1997. She served the people of Michigan for 30 years.

Jan loved to spend time with her family, read “doctors and disasters” books, and volunteer at the Delta Township Library. She especially loved to help with the library’s used book sales.

Jan is survived by her very special friend, Robert Langleben, and her two daughters, Becky (Robb) Willman and Debbie (Patrick) Clark. She had four grandchildren whom she doted on: Ian (Hope) Willman, Joshua Clark, Lauren Clark, and Emma Clark and three great-grandsons, Jay, Reese, and Parker Willman. She is also survived by her two sisters, Karen (Galen) Carpenter and Lynn (Denny) Rumsey as well as her brother, Bob Wolgamood and several nieces and nephews and their children.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Evan Willman.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Gorsline Runciman Tiffany Funeral Chapel at 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing MI 48917. A private ceremony for her immediate family will be held at a later time.

The family requests memorial donations go to Delta Township Library or Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
