MSP trials text response system in 4 counties

A new response system for Michigan State Police emergency calls will be tested for 90 days in four Michigan counties starting next week.

Mobile phone calls for help via 911, and placed from Eaton, Branch, Calhoun and St. Joseph counties, will receive a text when a trooper is dispatched.

Only MSP will use the system for now.

If troopers aren’t on scene within 30 minutes, an automated text will be sent to the complainant advising that their police officer is still en route, or any updates that need to be communicated, Marshall Post commander, Lt. Barry Schrader said.

Troopers can become delayed due to other priority calls or circumstances,

Since August, Battle Creek has tested the automated computer system.

Not all calls will receive this messaging, including sensitive safety matters, for example.
