Out and About – Week of April 17th

If you have all the money you need, here are ten things money just can’t buy:

Manners, morals, respect, character, common sense, trust, patience, class, integrity and love.

You need to earn Respect, Trust and Love. Most of the others you have to work on.

The Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce is offering another opportunity to have lunch and learn something. On Friday, April 28, at the Chamber Event Center, 1116 North Main Street, in Three Rivers, a “Wage and Benefit Survey” will be presented from noon until 1 PM. Michael Horrigan of

W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research will report on the 2022 wage and benefits survey with a focus on manufacturing and health care. The cost is $5.00. You must RSVP at info@trchamber.com, or phone (269)278-8193.

The Stone Cottage Free Store, located at the corner of West and Bennett Streets in Three Rivers, is in need of women’s clothing in sizes small, medium and large, men’s clothing in all sizes, towels, sheets, and blankets. The Free Store is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 AM until noon. If you have items to donate, please call (269)535-2786. Volunteers will help you work out a time to come and drop off items. Please don’t leave any items on the porch when the store is closed.

I’ve never been troubled with too much caffeine. I have never had difficulty getting to sleep and there are mornings when I don’t even have one cup of coffee. I do enjoy a cup or two when having breakfast out. Some 90 percent of Americans consume caffeine each day, whether from soda, tea, energy drinks or coffee. As a matter of fact, coffee consumption is at a 20-year high, with two out of three Americans grabbing a daily cup of the “go juice”, according to the National Coffee Association. Currently, the number of Americans with major eye diseases is increasing, in large part because the general population is aging.

Research is mixed, moderate amounts of caffeine do not appear to increase the risk of eye disease for most people. Your actual risk depends on a variety of factors including how much caffeine you drink.

The Food and Drug Administration recommends that healthy adults should consume no more than 400 milligrams of caffeine a day. This amounts to about four cups of coffee. Once again, “Moderation” is the key factor.

“Prosdokian” is a sentence or statement with an unexpected ending. Prosdokian means against expectations in Greek, and typically puts the first part of the sentence in a new and humorous context. Here are five examples you might find a little clever:

I tried to sue the airline for losing my luggage. I lost my case.
Is it ignorance or apathy that’s destroying the world today? I don’t know and don’t really care.
I saw an ad for burial plots and thought: “That’s the last thing I need!”
I broke my finger last week. On the other hand, I’m okay.
I wasn’t originally going to get a brain transplant, but then I changed my mind.
I’ll close this week with some words of wisdom.

The innocent bystander often gets beaten up.
You cannot have enough ideas.
The bearded devil is forced to dwell in the only place where they don’t sell BURMA SHAVE

See you Out and About!
