Butch Ames, 73

Dwight A. “Butch” Ames, age 73, of Mendon, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.  He was born in Three Rivers on March 31, 1950 the son of Claude Ames, Sr. and Amy Maxine (Parker) Ames, and attended Three Rivers Schools.  He was married to Sandra Mae Tase on June 15, 1968 in Three Rivers and they have made their home in Mendon for the past 52 years.

Butch was employed at American Axle in Three Rivers for thirty years. He is currently a trustee on the Mendon Village Council, where he has served several terms.  He was a Mendon Sports Booster and served as treasurer for the Fun Time Truck Pullers.  He enjoyed the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping.  He enjoyed travelling with his family and woodworking.

Butch is survived by his wife, Sandra; two sons and their wives, Randy (Michelle) Ames and Christopher (Kim) Ames; two grandchildren, Dakota Ames and Alexis Ames, all of Mendon; sister-in-law, Karen Paul; and his faithful dogs, Gunner and Matti.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Donald Paul.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at the Three Rivers Bible Church with Pastors Jeff Homan and Jordan Parks officiating.  The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 am at the church.
