Constantine Township – Armed intruder shot

An armed intruder was shot by a would-be victim during an incident Friday evening in Constantine Township.

State Police troopers responded around 10 p.m. Friday to the 60000 block of Maple Road, west of Constantine, in response to an attempted breaking-and-entering.

Investigators said the homeowner told them he had shot a male intruder who was armed with a knife and had entered his home. Troopers arrived at the scene and found a male subject lying outside the residence. He appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper thigh, according to a department media release.

Authorities provided life-saving care until emergency medical services arrived. The wounded subject, whose age and community of residence was not stated in a department media release, was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Once hospitalized, he underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition.
