Max Duane Barnes, age 83, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Oct. 12, 1939 in Coldwater, a son to the late Melvin and Ruth (Bussing) Barnes.
Max has resided in Sturgis since building his current home in 1978. He previously lived in Coldwater, Bronson, Burr Oak, and Colon.
On July 6, 1961 in Sturgis, he married Norine Cox.
Max was a Master Plumber by trade for 50 plus years and had been employed by Valley Industrial Piping, Casselman’s Plumbing, and retired from the Plumber’s Union where he worked many industrial jobs, including Up John in Kalamazoo.
He enjoyed wood carving and camping.
Surviving are his wife: Norine; 5 children: Robert (Jennifer) Barnes of Sturgis, Jerry (Lorraina) Barnes of Paris, MI, Catherine (Douglas Hicks) Barnes of Sturgis, Jeffery Barnes of Carson City, MI, and Craig (Jackie) Barnes of Three Rivers; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 sister: Joy Ward of Bronson, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 7 siblings.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4:00 to 7:00 on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091.
