Centreville alumni event welcomes former MLB player as speaker

Former Major League Baseball player Matt Thornton was the keynote speaker before more than 100 attendees at Saturday’s Centreville High School 2023 Alumni Banquet.

The 1995 CHS graduate provided a brief recap of his 13-year major-league career and reminisced about the school’s 1994 and 1995 varsity basketball teams that made deep playoff runs in the MHSAA tournament.

Thornton also acknowledged the value of growing up in Centreville and the community support for its school district.

Thornton, 46, said he enjoyed reconnecting over the weekend with former basketball teammates and enjoyed a round of golf Saturday at Island Hills.

A father of three, Thornton retired in 2018 and now lives in Arizona.
