Lelah Palmer, 88

Lelah Ann Palmer, age 88, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 18, 2023 at her home.

She was born January 1, 1935 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Chester “Chuck” and Dorothy (Burke) Beers.

Lelah was a lifelong Sturgis resident.

On February 14, 1982 she married James A. Palmer in Sturgis. He preceded her in death May 1, 2006.

She retired from the Harter Corporation in Sturgis following several years of dedicated employment. She had also worked at the Transogram Company also in Sturgis.

Lelah was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sturgis.

She enjoyed bowling, reading, crocheting, and bird watching. Her family will forever miss her cooking and baking. Lelah loved time spent with her family.

She is survived by daughters: Patricia (Robert “Rocky”) Rhodes of Nashville, Tennessee, Sandi (Bruce) VanEmon of Three Rivers, and Michelle Rees of Sturgis; daughter-in-law: Debbie Stevens of Manning, South Carolina; step-son: Richard (Michele) Palmer of Sturgis; grandchildren: Mauri (Dale) Horn, Mikel VanEmon, Joel Holtz, Cherish VanEmon, Maranda (Arnold) Stevens and Heather (Jeremy) Kyle; four great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and special longtime friend: Dona Hagen of Mendon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son: Scott Stevens.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 Thursday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Lelah Ann Palmer will immediately follow the visitation at 3:00.  Pastor Tracy McConnell will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
