Multiple injuries in off-road vehicle crash

Four men were injured after the off-road vehicle they were in crashed over the weekend in Cass County’s Penn Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called shortly after 8:30 p.m. Saturday to the 16000 block of Donnell Lake Street regarding a crash with injuries.

The vehicle was driven by 34-year-old Ryan Chris of Vandalia. Authorities said Chris lost control of the vehicle while attempting to navigate a turn. The vehicle went off the roadway, up an embankment, struck a tree and turned onto its side.

Passenger Thomas Rohrer, 30, of Goshen, was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital and later to IU Hospital in Indianapolis.

Passengers, Blayne LeClaire, 23, of Niles, and 24-year-old Elkhart resident Nicholis Mammolenti suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

Investigators said alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the incident.
