White Pigeon man found guilty in murder case

A White Pigeon man last week was found guilty of hitting and killing a jogger nearly two years ago then hiding her body in a secluded area of Constantine Township.

Colby Martin, 31, admitted in an interrogation video to hitting and killing Melody Rohrer, 64, in Van Buren County’s Hamilton Township, then hiding her body on Purgatory Road. Prosecutors argued Martin intentionally killed Rohrer with his truck in September 2021.

Rohrer is a Three Rivers High School alumna and lived in the Decatur area.

After 90 minutes of deliberations June 14, a Van Buren County jury found Martin guilty on all three counts: open murder; failure to stop at the scene when at fault causing death; and concealing the death of an individual.

The jury declared Martin guilty of first-degree premeditated murder.

Martin, whose defense attorney argued it was not intentional, is scheduled for sentencing July 31 in Van Buren County.
