Woman arrested on resisting and arson charges

A Three Rivers-area woman was arrested last week after she refused to exit a house and subsequently set it on fire in Sherman Township.

Undersheriff Jason Bingaman said deputies responded Friday to a residence in the 67000 block of Ottawa Drive to assist Branch County authorities in locating a wanted subject.

Bingaman said deputies approached the residence and attempted to make contact with 67-year-old, Mary Ann Finney. Authorities said she yelled obscenities and refused to exit the property. Deputies exhausted all means to attempt to get her to come out of the residence and drafted a search warrant, Bingaman said. When deputies attempted to force entry, Finney allegedly ignited a fire inside the residence.

Finney was charged with felony arson of real property, assaulting an officer of the law, and resisting and obstructing law-enforcement officials.
