Leona L. Truax, age 82, of Leonidas, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Leonidas.
Leona was born on January 5, 1941, in Coldwater, a daughter to the late Jeremiah and Hazel “Lucille” (McLish) Mears. Leona was a graduate of Vicksburg High School with the class of 1959.
On December 9, 1961, Leona married Donald Truax Sr. at Marantha Bible Baptist Church in Fulton, Michigan. Donald preceded her in death on December 26, 2017.
Leona was a member of the Crossroads Bible Church in Sherwood, Michigan. She loved all of her grandchildren and gave them everything she could.
Surviving her are her children: Donald (Tina) Truax Jr. of Sherwood, Christine (Donald Jr.) Mcnees of Leonidas, Scott (Luann) Truax of Sturgis, Larry (Shelly) Truax of Noblesville, Indiana, 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, many adopted grandchildren, siblings: Geraldine Mathews, Linda Strickland, Gerald (Karen) Mears, Molly (Brad) Mitchell, and Howard (Amy) Mears, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Jeremiah and Hazel “Lucille” Mears, Leona was preceded in death by her husband Donald Truax Sr., and her son Robby Truax.
The Truax family will receive friends and relative from 11:00 to 1:00 on Monday, July 31, 2023, at the Crossroads Bible Church: 1144 Dunks Rd, Sherwood, MI 49089. There will be a funeral service held following the visitation beginning at 1:00 with pastor Trent Hammond officiating. Cremation will take place following the funeral service and interment of ashes will take place in Leonidas Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the Church.
