Brian Willoughby, 56

Brian James Willoughby died peacefully and unexpectedly on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at his Vicksburg home at the age of 56. He was an amazing son, husband, dad, brother, uncle, and human with a kind and gentle spirit. Brian was an extraordinary selfless person who brought his own brand of humor whenever friends and family were together.

He enjoyed spending time with his wife and children whether it was to play video or board games, attend concerts and other events.  He felt much pride with all of their accomplishments. He loved his extended family and looked forward to large gatherings. He loved watching sports especially the Rams, the Cardinals, & NASCAR. He enjoyed reading history, movies, and playing RISK. Brian worked for over 25 years in the movie theater industry, in Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, and Three Rivers.

Brian was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, class of 1985. He attended Adrian College, then received his BS from Western Michigan University.

On October 28, 2000, Brian married Stephanie (Smith) Willoughby, and they had three children, Benjamin, Samuel, and Erin, who survive.  Brian is also survived by his father James (Deborah Search) Willoughby, his sister Debora (Richard) Karnemaat, his brothers, Scott (Yulia) Willoughby, and Mark (Tina Newhauser) Willoughby, Stephanie’s parents, Susan and Eric Smith, brother-in-law, David Smith, nephews Ryan, Nathan, Zack, Sean, and nieces Sofia and Maddy. Brian was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Marquita Willoughby, and step-sister, Elizabeth Kordella.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Portage. Visitation will be held at the church at 10:00 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to an education fund for the children, the Vicksburg Bands Big Red Machine, or to the Kalamazoo Nature Center.
