Fatal crash victims identified

Victims of a two-vehicle crash June 30 in White Pigeon Township have been identified.

St Joseph County Sheriff’s Office Undersheriff Jason Bingaman said 29-year-old Rosalie M. Yoder and 27-year-old Marcia Ann Miller died after the car they were in left the roadway and struck a tree.

Both women were from Shipshewana.

Bingaman said deputies were called shortly after 10:30 p.m. June 30 to Indian Prairie Road, near Kalamazoo Road, in response to a personal-injury incident.

Investigators said an Escalade driven by a 19-year-old Lagrange County man was heading west on Indian Prairie when it attempted to pass a Chevy Cobalt while in a no-passing zone. Authorities said the driver of the Escalade possibly misjudged his clearance from the car and his vehicle struck the Cobalt, sending it off the roadway.

Sheriff’s investigators have not yet released the name of the suspect. He is charged with several felonies, and authorities said alcohol and speed are believed to have been factors in the incident.
