Recall petition refiled

A White Pigeon Township woman has re-filed petitions in an attempt to recall two members of the White Pigeon Township Board of Trustees.

According to St. Joseph County Clerk Lindsay Oswald, recall petitions were submitted July 3 by township resident Anita Casada. She is targeting supervisor Don Gloy and his wife, treasurer Trudy Gloy.

Oswald set a clarity/factuality hearing for 9 a.m. Thursday in the third-floor Commission Room at the county courthouse.

In her petition against Don Gloy, Casada indicated he failed last year to pursue American Rescue Plan Act funds being offered by St. Joseph County. “Supervisor Gloy did not submit an application and White Pigeon Township was excluded from receiving any of the funds,” Casada wrote.

Regarding her recall petition against Trudy Gloy, Casada stated the basis of her effort centers on ethics. Casada made reference to a real estate transaction by Gloy in July 2022, when Gloy apparently purchased a vacant residential lot then voted to rezone the property in order to construct a residential storage building.

If the commission OK’s the language, then Casada must secure at least 378 signatures of White Pigeon Township’s registered voters for the matter to move forward.
