Shelby Slone, age 82, of Mendon, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Medilodge in Portage. He was born July 12, 1941 in Inez, Kentucky, a son to Ernest and Vivian (Stepp) Slone.
Shelby married his wife, Judy in Goshen, Indiana on August 5, 1967. He has resided for the last 40+ years in Mendon, moving from Three Rivers. Shelby was a machinist, working at Cima Precision before his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion. Shelby enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time outside. He and his wife Judy would take the boys camping in their younger years. Outdoors is where you could always find Shelby. He also had a love of tinkering with cars. Shelby used to drive a Sunday School bus. He and Judy would always make sure the students always had donuts and milk on the bus. He wasn’t a big fan of cats, but his Maine Coon cat Mr. Bud persuaded him otherwise, even though it has been years since Mr. Bud’s passing, he held a special place in Shelby’s heart.
Shelby is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Judy Slone of Mendon; Sons: Jeremy (Rosemary) Slone of Asheboro, North Carolina and Jason (Sarah) Slone of Centreville; Nine Grandchildren; Nine Great-Grandchildren and two Great-Great-Grandchildren; Five siblings and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service August 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Moorepark Cemetery, 16960 Moorepark Rd, Three Rivers, MI.
