Sturgis – Urban chickens discussion continues

Sturgis Planning Commission members this week voted to not recommend urban chickens in town.

Despite Monday’s vote, members of the Sturgis City Commission may proceed as they wish, as the planning commission is a recommending body to aid city commissioners in making an informed decision.

If the city commission decides to move forward, the planning commission would support the measure being placed on a ballot for residents to decide. The ballot option was discussed by the city commission at a previous meeting as a potential alternative to voting for or against the proposal as a board.

The city commission plans to examine the planning commission’s information and recommendation at its July 26 meeting.
