Sturgis Hospital has fully transitioned to a rural emergency hospital, though it continues to work toward finding a buyer.
The 98-year-old hospital network designation as Michigan’s first rural emergency hospital was announced Thursday and is one of only a handful in the entire United States. The designation, recently granted by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, will enable the hospital to become more financially solvent as it searches for an entity to purchase the facility.
Sturgis Hospital Interim CEO Jeremy Gump said he is proud about and grateful for the milestone accomplishment.
The designation will enable Sturgis Hospital to further expand its emergency department capabilities, ensuring the availability of advanced medical technologies and resources to handle emergency cases effectively. The hospital will be equipped to provide rapid-response times, reducing the time it takes for patients to receive essential medical attention during emergencies.
