United Way sets up fund to help fire victim

St. Joseph County United Way has opened a family catastrophic fund to help a victim of the July fire that destroyed a business in downtown Burr Oak.

Agency officials said the fundraiser is to benefit Chris Williams. He was the chef at “It Takes A Village” diner and lived in an apartment above it.

On weekends, he ran the restaurant for its owners. United Way officials said Williams has already begun searching for a new job and is in need of help with essential items, rent and medications.

One-hundred percent of all donations will go directly to Williams. A link to donate can be found on the United Way’s web page. Its site is: sjcuf.com.
