Branch County man sentenced in resisting case

A Branch County man has been sentenced in a case related to an incident dating to January 2020.

Jeffery Elliot, 34, was sentenced in Branch County Circuit Court to serve at least 14 months after he plead guilty to assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer.

In exchange for the plea, the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office agreed to dismiss charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and a second count of assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer.

Law-enforcement officials attempted to arrest Elliott at a Kinderhook Township residence on outstanding warrants out of St. Joseph County. Troopers said Elliott resisted and obstructed but was eventually detained.
