County fair draws strong crowds

Officials with the St. Joseph County Grange Fair said a week of relatively good weather should help the seven-day event reach its average of 150,000 people.

Mindy Timm, a fair board member, said figures will be tabulated this week to confirm attendance figures for the event. The 2023 fair concluded Saturday.

Timm said a late-afternoon rain shower opening day Sept. 17 caused a few problems, including postponement of the evening’s grandstand attraction, until Saturday morning. That issue aside, the fair drew strong crowds daily throughout the rest of the week, Timm said.

Timm noted the fair appreciates all feedback from the public and the board will review the 2023 event in helping its members plan the 2024 fair, which will begin Sept. 15, the earliest possible start date.
