Alice C. Scheetz, age 90, of Sturgis, passed away early Sunday evening, October 22, 2023 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born April 29, 1933 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Thomas H. and Edith (Voyce) Sturgis.
Alice was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1951. She furthered her education at Michigan State University in East Lansing, where she earned a Bachelor Degree in Home Economics, graduating in 1955.
On June 18, 1955 she married Paul Albert Scheetz at the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis. He preceded her in death March 28, 2008.
From 1955 to 1962, she taught Home Economics at Sturgis Public Schools and she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.
Alice was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and was the planner for weddings and receptions. She could often times be found in the kitchen lending a hand in any way she could. Alice was a 66 year Life Member of Amos Sturgis Chapter – DAR where she held the position of Regent for 18 years. Alice enjoyed volunteering her time at the St. Joseph County Grange Fair with St. Joseph County Extension, gardening, reading and traveling with Paul in their Airstream trailer.
She is survived by her son: Thomas (Karen) Scheetz of Sturgis; grandsons: Jerimiah Scheetz of Sturgis, Anthony Scheetz of Crawfordsville, Indiana and Nathaniel (Elie) Scheetz of Cedarville; brother: David (Beverly) Sturgis of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister: Suzanne Meyer; brother: Matthew Sturgis and step-mother: Louise Sturgis.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Wednesday, November 1st at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Alice C. Scheetz will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 2nd at the First United Methodist Church, 200 Pleasant Ave. in Sturgis. The Rev. Sue Babb will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
