Centreville Schools approve bus purchase

Centreville Public Schools has approved the purchase of a used bus.

During its monthly meeting Monday, the district’s board of education acted on the finance committee’s recommendation to buy the 77-passenger bus, manufactured by the company Thomas Built Buses.

It features underbelly storage.

Superintendent Chad Brady said the $79,000 purchase is being made with Grand Rapids-based Hoekstra Transportation. Brady said he expects delivery of the 2021 bus by the end of November. Brady said he believes the bus, which has 27,000 miles, is a lease turn-in.

It will replace an aging bus and keep the district’s fleet of buses at eight.

Brady said funds will come from money still in the district’s 2013 bond request.

Meanwhile, transportation supervisor Amanda Shirey has been asked to investigate the purchase of a new, 90-passenger bus.
