Constantine considers options for new fire station

Members of the Constantine Village Council are looking into options related to construction of a new fire station.

During their Oct. 16 meeting, council members recognized the cost for a new station to meet their specifications would be about $2.7 million. Congressman Tim Walberg, however, has indicated the availability of a federal grant that could cover as much as 75 percent of the cost. That would leave the village with a balance of about $675,000.

In advance of making a decision about whether to pursue the idea, council members agreed to form a building authority. Having a building authority would allow the village the option of issuing general-obligation bonds to cover the village’s cost of a new fire station.

  1. NO! No more non-elected separate authorities running this town! They are driving us into millions of debt while shirking their direct involvement and responsibilities. We are paying a village manager, an elected council, and multiple department employees. We already had a Fire Board consisting of reps from the Village and Florence and Constantine Townships.
Voters, wake up! You are allowing the few elected officials you still have to give away your right and ability to hold anyone accountable for any action they take in your name while raiding you bank account, those of your children and grandchildren.
