Glen Oaks receives national accreditation for nursing program

Glen Oaks Community College has received national accreditation for its nursing program.

Sara Birch, Glen Oaks’ dean of health sciences, received notice after more than three years of preparation, submissions and a visit from Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing evaluators.

Birch said having the ACEN accreditation increases the value of the school’s program. Accreditation is for a five-year period, after which the program will be re-evaluated as part of the continued accreditation process.

The nursing accreditation was initiated by the Michigan Board of Nursing in 2020. Glen Oaks is now one of 15 of the 28 community colleges in the state that is ACEN accredited.
