Great Start looks to increase number of Little Free Libraries

Great Start Collaboration of St. Joseph County is seeking anyone interested in hosting a Little Free Library.

The free book exchange is typically set up outside a residence or business and features a quantity of books available to anyone. The motto of Little Free Libraries is “If you see something you would like to read, take it. When you’re finished, share it with a friend, bring it back or leave it in another Little Free Library.”

Applications for new locations will be fielded through the end of the year. Priority will be given to locations that serve families with the highest needs. Installation would take place in March or April 2024.

The library will be provided for free and installed by CTE building-trades students.

More information is available from Great Start’s Stephanie Zann at 467-5473.

  1. Too often the Little Free Libraries are not maintained (or abused or vandalized) so Don`t forget your local library! Books are available along with other formats and media. Most no longer charge overdue fees. Many have rolling book sales asking for little more than a donation. Add in the activities, programs and more… A great resource and a lot of fun!
