Janice Irene Jacobs, age 80, of Sturgis, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at her home.
She was born January 20, 1943 in Muskegon, daughter of the late Donald Edward and Retha Belle (Perrin) Geark.
Janice was a lifelong Sturgis resident.
She retired from Video Unlimited in Sturgis following over 20 years of dedicated employment as an assistant manager. She also had worked several years at the Kirsch Company in Sturgis.
Janice had a true appreciation for horses and loved going to her grandchildren’s many horse shows. She was still riding and caring for her horses until her last day. She was a Life member of the St. Joseph County Horseman’s Association. She enjoyed cruising the backroads in her Sebring convertible, camping, cooking, riding horses, fishing, and listening to Elvis Presley and country music. Janice had many hobbies and involvements but what made her happiest is when she was surrounded by her family. She could always be counted on to be in attendance at all of her grandchildren’s and great grandsons many sporting events and activities.
Janice is survived by her three loving daughters: Sherri (Charles) Monroe, Rhonda (Vinod) Appukuttan and Wendy (Brian) Wonders all of Sturgis; five grandchildren: John (Amanda) Pappas of Paw Paw, Kristy (Drew) Crites of Mendon, Brandye (Sean) Schmitt of Three Rivers, Jay Sweet of Sturgis and Charles Monroe of Sturgis; six great grandchildren: Brayden Crites, Kyler Crites, Kennedy Mosher, RyLee Monroe, Liam Pappas, Daxton Schmitt; two sisters: Kristine (Jim) Taylor of Redcliff, Kentucky and Joy Cronkhite of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father: Donald Geark; mother and step-father who raised her: Retha and John Christensen; granddaughter: Andrea Monroe; two sisters: Kellie Stephens and Sheryl Hargett and fiancée: Loy Chester.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
