Karen Hummel, 61

Karen M. Hummel, age 61, of Constantine, died Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, She was born November 16, 1961 in Chicago, a daughter of Randall and Diane (Prentiss) Thomas. Karen graduated from Constantine High School in 1979. On December 26, 1989 she married Jim Hummel in Constantine. Together, Karen and Jim owned and operated both the Constantine and White Pigeon Auto Parts & Hardware Stores. After the hardware store closed, she opened The Garage Sale Store in Constantine. Karen loved animals, and was a supporter of the St Joseph County Animal Shelter. She also loved crafting and refurbishing furniture.

Surviving Karen are her husband Jim Hummel, daughter Amy (John Puzneak) Grindle, granddaughter Calee Puzneak, grandson Caleb Wisel, son Scott Hummel, daughter Mindy (Clayton) Hulse, daughter Dawn (Charlie) Briggs, daughter Jamie (Tim) Judsen, son Ryan (Lauri) Hummel, daughter Kristin (Aaron) Jaeger, 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her beloved pets Toby, Phred, Sam and Kiki. She was preceded in death by her father Randall Thomas and her cat Punk.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the American Legion Post 223, 65079 US 131 BR, Constantine from 4:00 to  6:00 PM on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
