Kenneth T. Stiver of Schoolcraft passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the age of 91. His life was marked by his admirable career, heartfelt memories, and profound impact on those around him. He was born on October 18, 1931 in Schoolcraft to parents Fred and Mahala (Taylor) Stiver. Kenneth grew up surrounded by love and a strong sense of family unity. As a child, he selflessly worked on his father’s farm instead of pursuing sports or leisure activities. This selflessness mirrored his unwavering commitment to family and helping others.
After completing his education at Schoolcraft High School in 1949, Kenneth embarked on a path that would shape his entire adult life. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, demonstrating a deep sense of patriotism and duty. Following his military service, he furthered his education at Western Michigan University for two years.
Kenneth’s working life was marked by unwavering dedication and unmatched commitment. For an astounding 43 years, he devoted his time and talents to Graph Trucking, which later became Davis Motor Carrier. Starting out as a truck driver, Kenneth possessed an unyielding work ethic that propelled him up the ranks within the organization. Through perseverance and determination, he ultimately reached the position of Personnel Director. His exceptional career was a testament to his relentless drive for success and boundless ambition.
Beyond his professional life, Kenneth had a spirit that touched the lives of those around him. Fondly remembered as a jokester with a comical flair, he brightened the days of everyone fortunate enough to know him. His pleasant demeanor left an enduring impact on all who crossed paths with him during his journey through life.
Outside of work and family commitments, Kenneth delighted in several hobbies and interests that brought joy to his life. Wood carving and home remodeling were pursuits that allowed him to showcase his creativity and craftsmanship. Additionally, he enjoyed the occasional game of golf, relishing the opportunity to unwind and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Kenneth’s legacy continues through his surviving family members and friends who were blessed to share his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. His devotion to his family was equally evident in his relationships with his two sons, John and Jim, who looked up to their father with admiration and respect.
Kenneth Stiver’s led a life filled with purpose, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to both personal and professional growth. His jovial nature will forever be remembered, bringing smiles to the faces of all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. As we gather here today to celebrate his life, let us remember Kenneth for the laughter he brought into our lives and the impact he made on us all. May he rest in eternal peace.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley; two sons: John (Kathy) Stiver of Schoolcraft; Jim (Heather) Stiver, of Mendon; three grandchildren: Joe (Meagan) Stiver, of Portage; Gina (Logan) Wolfe, of Scotts; Nicholas Stiver, of Mendon; one great grandchild: Addison Stiver. Kenneth is preceded in death by his daughter Julie Ann Stiver and eight siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 11am at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 5855 East W Ave, Vicksburg, with Monsignor Martin officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 7pm at the Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Home, 409 South Main, Vicksburg and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial Schoolcraft Cemetery.
