Marilyn Skidmore, 96

Marilyn Jeanette (Waltz) Skidmore, age 96, of Marcellus, was called home to glory by her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Fairview Nursing Home in Centreville. During the week before Marilyn’s passing, all three daughters were able to spend the week with their Mom, singing hymns, praying, and just loving on her.

Marilyn was born Dec. 6, 1926 to Cecil and Fae Waltz at the family farm on the corner of M-40 and Hoffman Street. She graduated from Marcellus High School in 1944 and then attended Chardell Beauty School in Kalamazoo after winning her tuition through a drawing at the St. Joseph County Grange Fair in Centreville. Marilyn first worked as a beautician at The Catherine Shop, Main St. Three Rivers. She then owned her own shop in downtown Marcellus and eventually opened a beauty shop at her home in the country. She ran her beauty shop for more than 50 years.

Charles Earl Skidmore and Marilyn were united in marriage on Aug. 6, 1956 by a Justice of the Peace in Angola, Indiana. Marilyn enjoyed life on the farm, working with the animals, doing yard work and tending her flowers. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting and crocheting as pastimes. She served faithfully at the Newberg Norton Bible Church in Marcellus.

Already missed by her children: Linette (Jim) Daugherty of Marcellus, Brenda (Pastor Rik) Parcell, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and Cindy (Dan) Castellanos, Marcellus. Grandchildren: Casey (Amy) Brown, Audrie Brown, Danielle Parcell, Nathan Parcell, Carlos Castellanos, Vincente Castellanos and great grandson Silas Charles Brown.

Marilyn was proceeded in death by her husband Charles, parents, brothers Kenneth and Gerald (Doris) Waltz, sisters Oydean (Don) Mckenzie and Joan (John) Chiddister.

Family and Friends are invited to her memorial service on Saturday, October 28th at 11 o’clock at Newberg Norton Bible Church, 11256 Hoffman Road, Marcellus. A luncheon will follow at 12 o’clock at the church.
