Sturgis Public Schools officials will turn to district voters next year to restore a full 18 mills.
The district’s board of education last week approved a resolution to place the supplemental millage request on the May ballot. Approval would allow the district to receive the full amount of its per-pupil foundation revenue allowance.
The request will not impact district residents whose property is declared homestead. Instead, it would affect businesses and secondary residences within the district’s boundaries.
The district’s current non-homestead millage rate is 17.6862 mills, a difference of just more than three-tenths of a mill.
School officials said approval would generate more than $60,000 a year.
